Wood like this doesn’t come along often. Burl growth has flaws, which is part of what makes it special. But as the burl gets bigger, the likelihood of size-limiting flaw are greater. Usually a large bark inclusion spans enough of the blank so it can’t be used. This one is just right. It has a deep cherry color, and several splotches of bark inclusion scattered throughout. Some of the bark inclusions have been filled with coral powder that add to its visual interest.
